What to do

Head off into the open countryside on your bike and enjoy the wind in your face as you cycle on the many National Cycling Routes that are within easy reach from Mabel.

Whether you enjoy a leisurely tootle or are looking for more of a challenge there are rides for every ability, not least Sutton Bank & White Horse Bank that tests even the toughest rider. The view you are rewarded with once you reach the top are outstanding there is even a sign at Sutton Bank stating ‘Finest view in England’ definitely one of my favourite views.

Enjoy leisurely walks in Silton forest and Boltby Woods. Or venture up to Sutton Bank to enjoy the views on foot, or even just pop up the lane and say a quick hello to the sheep grazing, maybe catching sight of the deer bouncing across the fields.  Osmotherly a beautiful village with plenty of trails to follow and a peaceful walk around the reservoir.

Boltby Pony Trekking is only a 15min drive away, and offers various options from 1hr to full day treks in the woods.

The village of Knayton , has a lovely little pub, Dog & Gun serving tasty pub food. Always best to book early. Plus South Kilvington just a mile away has the Old Oak Tree, with outside terrace with a lovely walk along the river behind, where you will find Lama’s grazing alongside the horses and goats.

In Thirsk itself (5 min drive ) there are many different pubs, cafes and restaurants that cater for a wide range of tastes. Our favourites are ‘The White Horse Café’ that sells the best fish and chips this side of Whitby, and Biancos serving Italian favourites.
There is always the option to enjoy a bbq outside, then just Sit and watch the stars, on the decking .
